Blunt Headquarters
Workspace
BLUNT Headquarters is a workshop, showroom, product development lab and workplace for one of New Zealand’s most recognised design brands.
Set within a restored character building in Epsom, Auckland, the interior takes its cues from BLUNT’s engineering-led approach to design.
More working home than conventional office, the project brings designers, engineers, repair technicians and customer teams together, with the mechanics of the business kept visible rather than tucked away.
BLUNT has always felt like an engineering company cleverly disguised as an umbrella brand.
Every part of the business revolves around making one familiar object work just that little bit better, so the headquarters naturally became less about creating an office, and more about creating a place to invent, test, repair and refine.
We liked the idea that the engineering could become the beautiful part.
Folded steel, exposed fixings and carefully resolved details are left visible throughout the building.
Not as decoration, but as a quiet celebration of how things are put together.
Some projects ask you to design an office. Others ask you to design the way a company thinks.
This one felt a little closer to the second.
The staircase became a small expression of the project as a whole.
Useful first. Carefully engineered.
Quietly beautiful because every part is doing exactly the job it was designed to do.
